Patch, Inc.My Review
This version of the game consists of a plastic cup with six dice and the scoring instructions, so if you have some dice around the house, you really don't need to buy the game. Just go online and look up the rules. The game ends when someone reaches 10,000 points. When we are short on time, or for the grandkids with short attention spans, we shorten the game to 5,000 points.
The grandkids do really enjoy this game, and it does have its educational uses. Also, since there is a strong element of luck (as well as a bit of strategy) the younger grandkids will win sometimes.
I see that it is now available on Facebook. I don't know how that will affect the popularity of the game, but I don't think playing it online is as much fun as playing it sitting around the kitchen table!
Recommended Ages
Recommended for 8 and up. My little players were 6 and 13.
Approximate Price
$12 (a little high for a game that is basically six dice)
Educational Value
This is a good game for teaching kids probability. Also, keeping score requires math skills.

YesSusan Adcox, Grandparents Guide, says:
When I looked up Farkle on the web, I learned that it is a really old game, dating back at least to Shakespeare's time. It's a classic game, one that you might have played with your grandparents, providing that your grandparents were not opposed to dice games in general, as some grandparents were.
