A few organizations offer Grandparent of the Year awards, but I think I know why more such awards aren't handed out. There are too many fantastic grandparents out there. If we gave an award to every grandparent who deserves one, there would be no trophies left to give to our soccer-playing grandchildren.
Good grandparent writers -- or good writers writing about grandparents -- are a little rarer. Still, we're expecting quite a bit of competition for our Readers' Choice Awards this year. I tweaked last year's categories a bit and added two new categories. Here's how it works: We'll be taking nominations in five categories for the next month. From those nominees, five finalists will be selected for the final phase, the voting phase, which will occur Feb. 19-March 19. Both nominating and voting will be done online.
Here are the categories. Click on a link to make a nomination. If you'd like to make more than one nomination, you may do so as long as 24 hours has passed since your previous nomination.
- Favorite Grandparenting Book by 1-3 Authors
- Favorite Grandparenting Book by Multiple Authors (Anthology or Collection)
- Favorite E-Book About Grandparenting
- Favorite Children's Book Featuring Grandparents
- Favorite Grandparenting Blog
Make a nomination. Because every writer deserves a little recognition, even if they don't get a trophy.
