How Long I've Been Blogging and How Often I Post

I have been blogging for 2 1/2 years. I post most days.

Why I Decided to Become a Blogger

I am an event planning grandma. My friends and family members have always told me that I needed to write a book on the things I do, the family traditions that I have, and the memories that I have created as a grandma. Blogging was my chosen avenue to share my "grandma style". My vision for Grandma's Little Pearls is to share my kid-tested and grandma-approved ideas, tips, and resources with other grandparents. Some grandparents say that they do not have creative minds. My mind seems to overflow with creative ideas, so Grandma's Little Pearls is a much-needed creative outlet for me.

What I've Learned and What Rewards I Have Enjoyed

I love writing and sharing my ideas so blogging is a perfect fit for me. I am passionate about the importance of family, traditions, and building strong bonds between generations. I blog about all of it and the joy that it brings to me as a grandmother. I enjoy getting comments from my readers and I love to hear that they have successfully used my ideas! My blog recently gained the interest of the LA Times when one of their journalists came across Grandma's Little Pearls in her research on Grandma Camps. I was interviewed and I was included in a published article on the growing trend of grandparent camps. Being recognized by the LA Times was a real feather in my blogging cap!

Advice

  • Keep a journal of blogging ideas.
  • Include photos
  • Keep the names and personal information of family members private.
  • Share your wisdom, you have earned it!
  • Post on a regular basis.
  • Have fun.

Susan Adcox, About.com Grandparents, says:

Grandma Shelley's Little Pearls are her grandchildren, but I promise that you will also find pearls of wisdom on her site. Not only does Grandma Shelley post often, but she is diligent about using labels, which means that if you once found something wonderful on her site, you can easily find it again. Use the list of labels on the right to go straight to the content that interests you. She has a wealth of ideas about things to do with grandchildren, and her Grandma Camp ideas are really creative. Just click on "grandkids camp out" and "Christmas day camp" and prepare to be inspired!
