Guide Review - "Here We Go" Music CD for Grandparents and Grandchildren
I never met a grandkid who didn't love music. The problem is that Grandma and Grandpa may not like the same music as the kids. With "Here We Go" from GrandCamp Adventures, that problem won't arise. The grandkids will enjoy the infectious tunes and lively beats. The grandparents will like the variety of musical styles and the well-written lyrics. The execution is mostly on a professional level. On some tracks, kids sing and occasionally exclaim and laugh. The effect is joyful, but sometimes the sounds of the children obscure the music.
GrandCamp Adventures produced the CD as part of a total grandparent-grandchild adventure that includes a storybook, crafts and games, but the CD can also stand alone.
Although all generations will enjoy the tunes, they may not share the same favorites. My personal favorites are "Backwards Day," with a reggae beat and mixed-up lyrics, and the bluesy, jazzy "Old Grandad." The title song, "Here We Go," makes a great singalong. It's the grandkids' favorite. The ninth track reprises "Here We Go" with a melancholy twist: "Now we pack up our things and part ways, / The sun sets even on good days. . . " It's a tune that you'll catch yourself humming after the grandkids have gone home. It's a sentiment that Shakespeare famously expressed: "Parting is such sweet sorrow." Of course, you can't hum to Shakespeare.
