Alexis Stewart, daughter of Martha, made her a grandmother on March 8, 2011, with the arrival of granddaughter Jude, born by surrogate. Grandson Truman made his appearance almost exactly one year later. Alexis dished about growing up Stewart in Whateverland: Learning to Live Here, published near the end of 2011, but Martha told People magazine that she wasn't offended: "She's tall, beautiful, gorgeous and mother of Jude, and that's all that counts." After giving Martha a grandson, Alexis' stock is likely to soar even higher.

Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston was born late in 2008 to Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston, making Palin a grandmother at 44. The former Alaska governor is simultaneously parenting and grandparenting. Her son Trig was born in April of 2008. In 2011 her oldest son Track gave her a granddaughter, Kyla Grace.

Actor Kurt Russell has been Hawn's partner since 1983, but the two have never married. The Hudson clan doesn't go for traditional monikers. Apple is the child of Danner's daughter Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin of Coldplay. The couple toned down their creativity in selecting a name for their second child, Moses Bruce Anthony Martin. The boy's second name honors Gwyneth's other parent, director Bruce Paltrow, who died in 2002. Danner's son Jake Paltrow and his wife had a daughter in 2013.
