Go Sweet or Tart With Valentine Postmarks

By February 2, 2013

A Sealed With Love Forever Stamp is the perfect choice for sending Valentines to the grands.Since 1972, volunteers in Loveland, Colorado, have made it possible to send a sweetie or a grandchild a Valentine with an appropriate postmark. Other locations suggested by the United States Postal Service (USPS) include these choices:

  • Beauty, KY
  • Bliss, NY
  • Hartsville, TN
  • Lovely, KY
  • Valentine, NE
  • Paradise, PA

Valentines should be stamped and addressed and placed inside a larger envelope and sent to the postmaster. After they have been given their special postmark, they will be mailed to the intended recipients. Feb. 5 is the suggested deadline for mailing.

This year USPS has taken note of Valentine Grinches and included a list of postmarks for non-romantics, including Broken Arrow, OK, and Sour Lake, TX. Check out these instructions from the USPS with specific addresses for both the rom and non-rom destinations.

Of course, grandparents wouldn't want to send a grandchild a Valentine from Sour Lake, unless they are one of the 1,813 persons living in that metropolis. But I bet a grandchild would love a Valentine with one of the sweet postmarks. While you are in the mailing mood, go ahead and tuck a letter to your grandchild inside the envelope, too. Nothing says loving like a letter.

Date Correction:
The Valentine Re-mailing Program in Loveland, Colorado began in 1947 (not 1972) & is now in its 67th year.

Thank you, Linda, for the date correction. The source that I used when I wrote about this topic last year did say that the program in Loveland was 66 years old last year. But the Loveland Chamber of Commerce page says that it began in 1972. Maybe the Chamber took over the existing program in 1972. Anyone know?
