Grandparents Have a Lot of Life to Live

One reason some people have a hard time accepting grandparenthood is that they associate it with the end of life. That's an association that doesn't hold up to scrutiny, however. In truth, the average American will spend half of his or her adult life as a grandparent. Let's look at the stats: The average American will become a grandparent at the age of 48, 30 years after being considered an adult at age 18. The average life expectancy is now 78, so the average American will live another 30 years after becoming a grandparent. 30 years before grandparenthood, 30 years after. That sounds like a wonderful deal to me.

This insight about our grandparenting life is one of 10 facts about grandparents that everyone should know. But read it quickly. These facts are bound to change as more and more baby boomers become grandparents.
