Remember Bronx Mowgli?
Bronx was born in 2008 to Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz (now divorced). His moniker seemed to me to be the epitome of the crazy-name craze, but maybe it was just the beginning. Take a look at some 2012 celebrity births:
Blue Ivy Carter: Baby girl, born to Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Mabel Ray: Baby girl, born to Bruce Willis and wife Emma. That name's a bit more ordinary than the ones he and Demi Moore gave their three girls: Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. Bruce isn't a grandfather yet, although at 57 he's quite old enough.
Maple Sylvie: Baby girl, born to Jason Bateman and wife Amanda Anka. And yes, the grandfather is Paul Anka, who had his own baby-naming peculiarities. With his first wife Anne, he had five daughters: Amelia, Anthea, Alicia, Amanda and Alexandra. With his second wife Anna he had a son, Ethan.
Exton Elias: Baby boy, born to Robert Downey, Jr., and wife Susan. He has a brother, Indio Falconer Downey, from Downey's marriage to Deborah Falconer.
Halcyon Juna ("Hallie"): Baby girl, adopted by actress Beth Littleford and husband Rob Fox.
Clover Clementyne: Baby girl, born to Natasha Wagner and boyfriend Barry Watson. The name Clover honors Natasha's mother, Natalie Wood, who starred in Inside Daisy Clover.
Bastian Kick: Baby boy, born to actor Jeremy Sisto and wife Addie Lane. He has a sister, Charlie Ballerina.
Maxwell Drew: Baby girl, born to Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson, continuing the trend of gender-bending names. And, yes, we've come full circle. Maxwell is a cousin to Bronx Mowgli.
I've heard from grandparents who hate their grandchildren's names, and I've advised them to be non-committal if they can't be enthusiastic. But if I were faced with a Blue Ivy or a Maple, I might have trouble taking my own advice. What about you?

I have 3 grandchildren. Out of 6 names (1st and middle), I’m not wild about one middle name; the rest I love. They know how I feel. I just don’t tell people. Not a problem. And hopefully not a problem for him!
