Most grandparents evoke feelings of love and respect from their grandchildren. Some grandparents, however, inspire a sense of awe. At least that is the response of some of the grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II, interviewed for a special in honor of her Diamond Anniversary. Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew, is impressed by the way the 85-year-old queen can still command a room. Prince William admires the way she balances the public life and her need for privacy. Prince Harry is in awe of the way she continues to carry out the numerous duties of the monarchy.
According to the British Monarchy's Facebook page, the queen recently participated in the first event of her Diamond Jubilee, a tree planting. The Children's BBC reports that the queen attends over 400 official engagements each year. Children were asked on the website to report the amazing things that their grandparents do. Some of their reports were stunners--a 78-year-old who can still do a cartwheel, a 69-year-old who can do the splits. The children reported grandparents who sail, jog, play tennis, fly airplanes and go on "air balloons."
A grandparent who does cartwheels in her garden--that's very cool. But a queen who is on Facebook is no slouch either.
