Grand Photo of the Week: Sleep Under

When grandchildren sleep over, bedtime can be a difficult time for grandparents.

I've heard of sleep-overs, but this is the first time I've ever witnessed a sleep-under. These two guys--sons of a friend--must have been really tired.

I'm a morning person, so by bedtime, I'm pretty much done. When my grandchildren spend the night, I'm always happy to see them tucked in and sound asleep. Our favorite bedtime ritual is reading books, but the grandkids love to add a snack, several drinks of water and an extra story after the lights go off.

What are your bedtime rituals with kids and grandkids? Do they make bedtime easier or just more fun?

That is a great picture. They are angels when they sleep :) I am a night person, and I love to sleep in late in the mornings. I was lucky because my kids are, too! Before bed we read a book. And another and another…

What a darling photo! Reading is definitely our favorite bedtime ritual. I hope we can continue to pass our family’s love of reading down through many future generations.

My kids are teens now and I never thought I would miss the exhausting rituals of bedtime, but of course, now I do. We read so many great books and I miss that warm, soft baby cheek that I would kiss goodnight.

We read to them before bedtime. We’ve found routines are really important.

I’m a night owl myself and would allow my kids to stay up a bit late (well, except on school nights) so that I would have the leisure not to be awakened too early in the mornings. My daughter does the same with her 3 year old son. He is pretty active in the evening until he practically drops off asleep in the middle of his play and is then carried off to his bed. Story time for him is mid-day rather than bedtime. He’s in a puzzle phase right now so he likes for me to get down on the floor and help put the pieces together.

I think its enjoyable for both children parents and grandparents to have quiet wind down routine of one on one story time at bedtime to set the sleep mood mode..

How cute is that!? Don’t we wish brothers could always get along that well. :-)

Great picture!

Reading is part of our bedtime ritual, too! We get our PJs on, brush our teeth and then pick out a book. Once read she must hide under the covers for Grandpa to come find her, kiss her good night and turn out the light. THEN once he has left I must stay and tell her another made up story. This is often followed by one more trip to the bathroom and another drink of water but once I am out the door — 9 times out of 10 she is sound asleep in 5 minutes!

In my opinion, that’s the right place for a pillow. Should I ever be involved in someone’s good night ritual again I think I would read and try some of the verbally-cued relaxation techniques used in things like Body Flow.

Adorable photo! Sweet of your friend to share. Cute, cute, cute!

Books are the highlight of Bubby’s bedtime ritual. Sweet, tender moments.
