Grandkids Say the Darndest Things, Edition Two

By July 11, 2010

Follow me on:

It's time for another edition of Grandkids Say the Darndest Things.

Our first participant, Marlene Siringo, shares this cute story:

While in VT celebrating my husband's birthday, our 4˝ year old twin granddaughters, Hannah and Isabelle, were beside themselves with the surprise of an ice cream cake for Papa. I had taken them to the store to pick out the cake, and we had hidden it in the freezer for our after-dinner birthday treat. The girls kept scolding each other all day to keep quiet about the big "surprise." Finally, they couldn't hold their tongues any longer. At the dinner table Isabelle told Hannah to sshhhhhhh - she'll spoil the surprise! So Hannah looked at her Papa and said very seriously, "Papa, don't tell yourself about the cake!"

GrammiSue tells this story:

I was playing tic-tac-toe with my granddaughter. I was maneuvering to let her win, but she kept missing obvious chances to get three in a row. After several games had ended without a winner, my granddaughter confessed, "I was trying to let you win, Grammi." My heart swelled with pride at her thoughtfulness before she added, "Because you're old."

When your grandchild says the darnedest thing, grab your keyboard and email me. Your grandchild may be the star of the next episode!

Cute, it sounds like the beginning of a book.
