Grandchildren and Wheels
My oldest grandchild, Hannah, is sixteen and is about ready to get her “wheels,” which I’m not looking forward to. For my grandchildren, I prefer wheels that don’t come with a motor or a back seat. The three Razor scooters I bought a couple of years ago for the grandkids are my favorites. The kids ride them almost every single time they come to my house. I have a long driveway, plus a cul-de-sac that they are allowed to ride in if there is a grown-up with them. The scooters are better than bikes in that they take up less room in the garage, but I may break down and buy a couple of bikes if I find them on sale.
I read something interesting the other day about teaching children to ride bicycles. The newest method is to take the pedals off and adjust the seat so that the rider can easily touch the ground. The rider can learn to balance and steer; then the pedals can be put back on and that skill added. We may try that method with our two youngest grandchildren when it’s time for them to learn to ride.
Do you think Hannah would settle for a new bike? I don’t think so, but it’s worth a try.

I can’t believe Hannah is already 16!
