Bargains for the Toy Closet

Thursday May 29, 2008

Any grandparent worth beans has a toy room, a toy closet, a toy corner or a toy box. I like to stock my toy closet by shopping the clearance shelves. Although a toy bought on clearance may not be a hit, I have found that the same thing is true of toys specifically requested by my grandchildren. The requested toys, especially if they are hyped on TV, may not meet expectations. So I take my chances with the clearance shelves.

My favorite spots for clearance shopping are Target and Toys "R" Us. On a recent trip to Toys "R" Us, I found the Cranium Super Fort and Mega Fort at nice prices. The grandkids loved building the forts--they were happy. I saved money--I was happy. Now the toy closet is bulging like Fibber McGee's. There's an allusion you may have to be a grandmother to understand!

It’s great to show kids that you can have fun without buying the “newest, hottest” thing!
